Policy
This document covers how we collect and process data for the GameCaller app and this website. We strive to only collect what is needed to run and improve GameCaller. Read on for details.
Who we are
GameCaller is made by Orange Radish LLC. Orange Radish LLC, “we”, “us”, are the data controller for everything described in this policy.
This policy covers the GameCaller apps for iPhone and Android, the servers behind them, and this website. It does not cover what Apple, Google, or another third party does with any data you give them directly.
What we collect
Two kinds of people appear in this document: users, who use the app, and players, who are on a roster and have statistics recorded about them. A user may or may not also be a player.
Roster and game data
Team names, seasons and opponents. Players — a name and a jersey number, plus any position or alias you add. Games, and the play-by-play events and statistics from them. Games have an optional location you may choose to provide when creating them.
This is the only category that describes people who may never use GameCaller. We collect nothing else about a player.
Account data
An account is optional. If you sign in, we hold the identifier you used — a phone number, or the identifier Google or Apple gives us — plus an email address and a display name if you provide them. Other members of a team you join can see the display name.
Device data
A device identifier, and a public key we use to verify that requests come from your device. Neither is an advertising identifier and neither is shared.
Technical information
Your IP address, timestamps, app and operating-system version, and a request identifier, each time the app contacts our servers.
Purchases
Apple or Google processes the payment. We receive only the fact that a subscription is active, tied to a pseudonymous identifier. We never see your card number.
Support
Whatever you put in an email to us and the email address you contact us from.
What we do not collect
No contacts, photo library, location, calendar, health data, advertising identifier, or browsing activity outside our own app and website.
Voice recordings
GameCaller records audio while you call plays. Each recording is processed twice: once to turn the audio into text, and once to turn that text into a list of plays.
Depending on your settings and your subscription, each step runs either on your device — using speech to text and then optionally Large Language Models provided by Apple or Google — or on our servers, where we may pass it to one of the third-party providers named in Service providers & disclosures.
When audio or text does leave your device, we send your roster’s names and jersey numbers with it, because the providers need them to recognise those names correctly.
We do not keep the audio. Recordings are deleted from your device once processed and are not stored on our servers.
A recording made at a game may pick up whoever is nearby, not only you. Make sure recording is permitted where you are.
Analytics & diagnostics
App analytics
We collect analytics from the app to understand how the app is used — which screens are opened, which features are used, and when the app is launched and closed. Each install is given a random analytics identifier, and events carry your device model, operating-system version, app version, language, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. If you have an account, that identifier is linked to it.
Analytics events never carry roster content: no player names, jersey numbers, statistics, transcripts, or recordings.
Diagnostic logs
Our apps and servers write diagnostic logs, and those logs can include the text of what you said and names from your roster. When a call is misheard, that text is what explains why.
What bounds it:
- Server logs are deleted automatically after a limited period.
- Where we keep a transcript, and the roster data sent with it, to investigate an incorrect result, it is deleted after 30 days.
- Our crash reporter receives stack traces, device identifiers and app versions
- The usage records behind billing and abuse limits contain no content of any kind.
How we use data
- Run the app: store your teams, players, games and statistics, keep them available across your devices, and share them with users you invite.
- Turn your voice into statistics.
- Keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
- Respond to support requests.
- Diagnose failures and improve quality.
- Understand how the app is used, and how this website is used.
- Meet legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
We do not use your rosters, recordings or transcripts to train AI models.
Service providers & disclosures
Companies that process data for us
Each acts on our instructions, under contract, and may not use your data for its own purposes.
- Apple — sign-in, app distribution, and payment processing.
- AssemblyAI — converts audio to text.
- Google — website analytics, cloud hosting, sign-in, app distribution, and payments.
- Loops — marketing and transactional email communication.
- OpenAI — converts text into plays.
- PostHog — product analytics for the app.
- RevenueCat — subscription status.
- Sentry — crash and error reports.
- Twilio — sends SMS sign-in codes.
Data transfers and disclosures
We disclose data if we are legally compelled to. We may disclose it to investigate fraud, abuse, or a threat to someone’s safety. If Orange Radish LLC is acquired, your data transfers with the business under this policy until we replace it.
Website & analytics
This website is separate from the app and holds none of your app data.
We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to measure how the site is used: pages viewed, the referring site, browser and device type, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and an identifier stored in a cookie. It runs in its own property and is never joined to your app data.
Our host also records a standard server log for each request — IP address, time, page and browser.
Email collection on website
If you provide your email address on the website, you consent to marketing communications including product and feature launches. You may unsubscribe at any time, using the link in any email we send.
We use Loops to store that address and to send those emails. Your browser sends the address to Loops directly, so Loops also receives your IP address, your browser details, and which page you signed up from. We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
Retention & deletion
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for. In practice:
- Your content — teams, players, games and statistics — for as long as you or another user with access keeps it. Nothing expires on a schedule; it goes when the last user with access to it deletes it.
- Account identifiers — until you delete your account.
- Voice recordings — not retained.
- Transcripts and the roster data sent with them — a short period after processing, long enough to investigate an incorrect result.
- Sign-in codes and invite codes — until used or expired, a matter of minutes or hours.
- Website waitlist email addresses — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete the address.
- Diagnostic logs, crash reports and analytics — a limited period configured with each provider, after which they are deleted automatically.
Where the law requires us to keep something longer, or we need it to resolve a dispute or enforce our terms, we keep only what that requires and for no longer than it takes.
Deleting your account
You may delete your account at any time. This action is irreversible. Teams that only you belong to are deleted along with their history; teams you share pass to another member. Your devices revert to anonymous, and your sign-in identifier, email address and display name are erased. Transcripts held against your account are erased immediately.
Deleting the app removes the local copy of your data, but not the copy on our servers.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Requests are signed by a key held in your device’s secure hardware, so credentials copied off your device cannot be used elsewhere. Sign-in codes and invite codes are stored only as hashes, and transcript content is restricted to a narrower set of database credentials than the rest of our data.
No system is perfectly secure. Report a vulnerability to help@orangeradish.com.
Your rights & choices
If you are in the United States
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states give you the right to know what we hold about you, obtain a copy, correct it, have it deleted, and not be treated differently for asking. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is no sale or sharing to opt out of.
If you are in the UK or the EEA
You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. You can withdraw consent at any time, and complain to your data-protection authority.
We rely on these legal bases: performance of a contract for running the app; consent for voice processing, analytics cookies, and email collection on the website; legitimate interests for security, abuse prevention, diagnosing failures and understanding how the app is used; and legal obligation where the law requires it.
Our servers are in the United States and your data is transferred there.
